The modification, translation, and validation of the Malaysian version of Score for Allergic Rhinitis (SFAR) questionnaire

Abstract Background Score for Allergic Rhinitis (SFAR) is a validated self-administered questionnaire to assess allergic rhinitis (AR) in population setting but was designed temperate climate. Objective This study aims modify the SFAR tropical climate, translate modified from English Malay Language, and validate this Malaysian version of (MySFAR). Methods cross-sectional at an outpatient Otorhinolaryngology clinic tertiary center. There were 2 phases study: (1) translation validation (2) testing diagnostic accuracy. Two different groups participants recruited respective phase. Results In phase 1, total MySFAR score showed good discriminant validity between AR healthy controls (13.44 ± 1.58 v 1.00 2.12, p < 0.01). The internal consistency test–retest reliability excellent with Cronbach’s alpha 0.92 (95% CI 0.90–0.94) intraclass correlation coefficient 0.97, 0.01. 2, gave AUC 0.98 = 0.96–1.00, 0.01), cut-off > 9 ( J 0.92) determined based on highest Youden index. 97.8% sensitive 93.9% specific predicting non-allergic rhinitis. Conclusion present among population. able predict would be useful screening tool studies countries.
